Chords
Before I forget, because this song is in such a
high key, to play this along with the music, you
have to place a capo behind the 7nth fret.
Em 0-2-2-0-0-0
A x-0-2-2-2-0
D x-x-0-2-3-2
G6 3-2-0-0-3-0
Am x-0-2-2-3-0
A7 x-0-2-0-2-0
Intro
Simple enough. Just repeat these two chords
in the manor shown below(The spaces between the /’s
represents 2 bars at 4 beats per bar.)
/Em / /A / / x4
I couldn’t pick out the rhythm throughout the
whole song because it was hard to make out
in places, but here’s a suddested rhythm pattern
that I think could be correct, but I
would recommend you listen to the
music and make your own judgement.
This works for every bar of the song, I’ll only
show two bars. (D means down stroke and U means upstroke)
/D DU DU /D DU DU / ect
Verse 1
Same strumming as before. For the verse, you’ll find
that you wont have to remove the 3rd finger from
the 3rd fret, 2nd sting until you play the A.
This song is easy to follow, so fire away!
D G6 Am A
Everything is open, nothing is set in stone
D G6 Am A
Rivers turn to oceans, oceans tide you home
D G6 Am A
Home is where the heart is, but your heart had to roam
D G6 Am A
Drifting over bridges, never to return
A7
Watching bridges burn
Chorus
Again, same strumming pattern, just follow
the words and change chords ant the appropriate times.
D A Em
You’re driftwood floating underwater
G6
Breaking into pieces, pieces, pieces
D A Em
Just driftwood, hollow and of no use
G6
Waterfalls will find you, bind you, grind you
Verse 2
Same chords as before, but it’s slightly
different at the end as it goas on to a whole new
part of the song.
D G6 Am A
Nobody is an island, everyone had to go
D G6 Am A
Rivers turn to butter, butterflying low
D G6 Am A
Low is where your heart is, but your heart has to grow
D G6 Am A
Drifting under bridges, never with the flow
Bridge
Not exactly sure what to call this, a bridge,
a 2nd chorus or whatever, who cares.
Same strumming, so just follow chords and lyrics.
Em A Am
And you really didn't think it would happen
Em Am A
But it really is the end of the line
D A Em
So I'm sorry that you've turned to driftwood
G6 D
But you've been drifting for a long, long time
Instrumental
Keep on playing the D for two more bars then
play this. Notice it's the same pattern
reapeatetd 3 times then changes slightly on
the last one. ( Remember the scale for this
I showed you at the start)
/Em /A Am/
/Em /A Am/
/Em /A Am/
/Em / /
Verse 3
Chords exactly the same as verse one.
D G6 Am A
Everywhere there's trouble, nowhere's safe to go
D G6 Am A
Pushes turn to shovels, shovelling the snow
D G6 Am A
Frozen you have chosen, the path you wish to go
D G6 Am A
Drifting now forever, and forever more
A7
‘til you reach your shore
Chorus
Same as the first chorus
D A Em
You’re driftwood floating underwater
G6
Breaking into pieces, pieces, pieces
D A Em
Just driftwood, hollow and of no use
G6
Waterfalls will find you, bind you, grind you
Bridge 2
An extended version of the Bridge finishes the song.
Em A Am
And you really didn't think it would happen
Em Am A
But it really is the end of the line
D A Em
So I'm sorry that you've turned to driftwood
G6 D
But you've been drifting for a long, long time
G6 D
You've been drifting for a long, long time
G6 A D
You've been drifting for a long, drifting for a long, long time
