| How many different types of decoding lyrics from midi files are there? For example some midi files have lyrics after FF 01 (which is for comment text), other FF 05. Are there any links that explain decoding midi lyrics. |

According to information found on this site, http://www.borg.com/~jglatt/tech/midifile.htm, lyrics is placed in the FF 05 position. This is the case for GM (general MIDI) file. There are many other type of MIDI file out there, such as ones that are made specifically for certain brand of keyboard; but you would more likely to worry only about the GM format.
Sometimes, lyrics are put into the FF 01 position. FF 01 is for general text -- that means anything. If a sequencer follows the specification of GM, he/she would have put the lyrics at FF 05, not FF 01. |
